La H Kelly María y la H Clare grabando

During the summer of 2012, Sr. Clare was working on a CD for young people.

Fr. Rafael contributed to the project with a poem entitled, “Yo te pensé” [I Thought of You]. He wanted to remind the youth that God created them out of love and had a plan for them. In the poem, God speaks tenderly to the soul, like a father to his child, and explains how much He desires it to turn to Him again and allow Him to be its strength.

Sr. Clare got together with a group of sisters—I was one of them—to write more songs for the CD. Sr. Clare insisted that the songs had to be geared toward the youth. She had us listen to “Abandónate” by Romina González to show us what she meant. She explained that we didn’t have to come up with a ton of harmonies and complicated things, and that sometimes just one harmony—in just a few words or phrases—sounded better.

There were moments that we were not very inspired at all. We put other things on hold to dedicate time to the music, and sometimes we became frustrated when we could not come up with songs. How was so little coming out after dedicating so much time and effort? Looking back, I think Sr. Clare would have finished quicker if she would have done it on her own. Nonetheless, she did not want it to be her CD. She wanted it to be a Servant Sisters’ CD. That is why she did not grow tired of encouraging us to come up with new melodies and lyrics. She often took what we wrote and made them better.

This song, which is Fr. Rafael’s poem, is one of the only songs we managed recording provisionally. Sr. Clare had already composed the music, but she asked us to add harmonies.

Translated Lyrics

I thought of you, I loved you.
I created you and saw you in Me,
satisfying your desire for eternal love.
At this point, let Me be your strength.

I rejoiced when you were being formed
in your mother’s womb.
I saw you come into this world and take your first breath of air.
Oh, I loved you so!
I saw you take your first step,
and utter your first word.
And I was with you.
You hardly knew anything,
I knew you, my child.
I formed and weaved a net
so that you could reach Me.
When you were very little you were baptized,
and I gave you everything you needed.
And the gifts you were unaware of:
faith, hope and charity,
I gave you forgiveness and I gave you peace.
I also gave you my grace.

I thought of you, I loved you.
I created you and saw you in Me,
satisfying your desire for eternal love.
At this point, let Me be your strength.

I saw you reach the age of combat,
the age when you could recognize Me.
And you spoke and I spoke to you,
and you came to believe my word.
And now you are before Me.
Trust and do not doubt.
It is the step I am asking you to take now. Take it.
You will see how much love I reserved for you.
Take that step. I am God, not man.
And you will rejoice in me eternally.

I thought of you, I loved you.
I created you and saw you in Me,
satisfying your desire for eternal love.
At this point, let Me be your strength.
