She Helped Me Understand the Death of My Sister

Hna. Clare con chicas

Hermenegildo Sillero, Spain: I began to think about all the good things that would come out of her death, the plans that God might have in store, and the reason He had taken a soul that was so gifted.

Hermenegildo Sillero writes us from Seville, Spain. Shortly before the death of Sr. Clare, his sister passed away as a result of an aggressive cancer. Sr. Clare’s testimony helped him to resolve many of his doubts.

My name is Hermenegildo. I came to know about the Home of the Mother and Sr. Clare due to the events that occurred in Ecuador. If my memory doesn’t fail me, I was going through a difficult time after the death of my sister. Thanks to a priest’s advice, I was trying to see the good things that come about for those who are left behind after the death of a good person. I remember that it impressed me a lot when I saw a video about a young Carmelite nun that had recently died of cancer, just like my sister Maria, and the smile with which she left this world. That’s how, one day, when I was researching some information on the earthquake that happened in Ecuador, I came across Sr. Clare and the Home of the Mother. Her joy really amazed me as I watched the testimony that she gave at World Youth Day. I was also impressed by her relationship with the children in the school and her energy. Through all of this, I began to think about all the good things that would come out of her death, the plans that God might have in store, and the reason He had taken a soul that was so gifted.

The fact that Sr. Clare’s death coincided with the death of my sister helped me to resolve many questions that I couldn’t help but ask. The two of them had much in common: their age, their joy, their vocation of surrender to God, their character, and their dedication to young people.

Thank you for everything! I will keep praying!

Hermenegildo Sillero
