Margarita praying in Playa Prieta
I’ve been blessed to know your Sisters thanks to my work here at the Schoenstatt Shrine in Guayaquil (Ecuador). The impact of the April 16th earthquake became “more intense” as we began hearing news of the many lives lost that day. I learned of the death of Sr. Clare and the five girls via Internet, a few days later. On seeing her photo, I recalled having spoken with her and Sr. Mercedes on two occasions when they came to the Shrine, interested in using the premises for one of their activities. Sadly enough, I was not always able to help them… However, I do remember Sr. Clare singing and playing the guitar in a Mass here and I remember the joy she radiated to all around her.
I still cannot explain why her death had such an impact on me. In the days following the earthquake, I had to face a very difficult personal situation that was causing me great anxiety. I thought of offering up these sufferings for you, Sisters, in these moments of hardship. I offered up all my Masses for Sr. Clare and the girls. The following Saturday, I received a phone call that proved to be the solution to my anxiety. I AM CERTAIN that it was Sr. Clare interceding for me from Heaven!
On Sunday, April 24, I asked the Boys’ Youth Group of Schoenstatt if I could accompany them on their trip to Playa Prieta, so I could help out and pray, but most of all, so I could THANK GOD for having witnessed the spiritual fruits of Sr. Clare and these five girls. Thank you for your witness of love for the Church, dear Sisters. Count on my support and prayers from the Shrine of the Mother Thrice Admirable, Queen and Victress of Schoenstatt!
