You Already Were Nazarene!

Sr. Guadalupe, SSVM

Sr. Guadalupe Rodrigo, SSVM:  I ask you to pray for me and for all Nazarenes so that we give our life for this cause with the spirit of martyrdom!

On April 16, 2020, on the fourth anniversary of Sr. Clare’s death, Sr. Guadalupe Rodrigo, SSVM, missionary in Syria during the toughest years of the war, published this post on her Facebook.

Dear Sr. Clare, 4 years after your departure I celebrate your dedication and joy.

Facebook Post

I did not meet you personally, yet how happy it made me to know that in your last days, the persecuted Christians were present in your heart in a special way!

When I visited the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother’s house in Spain, I was given this letter. It is part of her last letter to the mother superior.

You already were Nazarene!

I ask you to pray for me and for all Nazarenes so that we give our life for this cause with the spirit of martyrdom!

This is the extract of Sr. Clare’s email that touched Sr. Guadalupe:

Dear Mother,

HAPPY EASTER! Just want to say that this is the fourth or fifth attempt to send you this email. I’d written about graces received and things that seem to have happened a thousand years ago, but I want to tell you about them so that you can see what God is doing in me.

This is what is the most recent. I’ve seen Sr. Guadalupe’s (the Servant of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará) testimony three times now, and it has done me a lot of good. Thanks to her, I think about our persecuted brothers and sisters a lot. I pray for them, and I really feel that Sr. Guadalupe’s testimony and integrity as well as the bravery of the Nazarenes—like they call them in Syria—help me give my all throughout the day.

I constantly have a song stuck in my head about the persecuted Christians. It’s a song called “Soy Nazareno” [I Am Nazarene] by a guy from Argentina.  I don’t know if you’ve ever heard it, but it’s worth listening to. You can find it on YouTube. The artist’s name is Maxi Largui. Like I said, I really do feel like their dedication, sufferings and prayers help me and stir me. If one day Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother want us to open a community in one of those countries where our brothers and sisters are being persecuted, I would love to go help. I am very happy to be Christian and to belong to a family (the Church) that... what an example!
