Sr. Clare Helped During the Labor and Birth Process

Laura Stinnet, USA:  I heard over and over again in my head the words from the video "In Memory of Sr. Clare."

Laura Stinnet tells us about the birth of her first child, Clare Maria, named in memory of Sr. Clare. Laura had a strong friendship with Sr. Clare for several years, and death has not interrupted this friendship.

We are excited to announce that our daughter, Clare Maria Stinnet, named after Sr. Clare Maria, SHM, was born on May 15, 2017, at 12:56am. She weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces and was 19.5 inches long. We are overjoyed to have her here with us, and to finally meet the little baby we have been praying for through Sr. Clare’s intercession for the past nine months!

Sr. Clare helped a great deal, not only during the pregnancy, but also during the labor and birth process. I had decided to have a natural childbirth, without the intervention of any pain medications, which proved to be very challenging during labor. During our childbirth classes the weeks before her birth, our instructor had told us to pick a visual to have during labor, to help us get through the pain. My two visuals were Christ Crucified and a picture of Sr. Clare. As the labor progressed and got more intense, not only did a picture of Sr. Clare help me, but also her words. I heard over and over again in my head the words from the video "In Memory of Sr. Clare," which the Sisters put together right after her death. During the video, when speaking of her time in Ecuador and her desire to give herself totally to God there, she says the words, “espero que no me hago la victima”“I hope to not feel sorry for myself.” These words were echoing in my head each time I felt tempted to start feeling sorry for myself due to the pains of labor. Sr. Clare was very present to me during my labor, and I am so grateful for her intersession.

We cannot wait to watch little Clare grow up, and we are very excited to tell her all about the amazing Sister she is named after! We chose July 16, Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, for her Baptism, in remembrance of the day that the Servant Sisters receive the habit. We know that Sr. Clare will be watching over our daughter, and we pray that our little Clare will become a great saint like Sr. Clare.
