Sr. Clare

Michael Laugeman:  It’s astounding to walk through the hallways now and to see images of Sr. Clare on the guys’ bulletin boards and in their rooms in order to remind them of the ways in which she has inspired them.

Michael Laugeman, seminarian from the diocese of St. Louis, Missouri (US), writes to share how Sr. Clare’s life is touching the seminarians of his diocese, helping them to grow in their desire for holiness. The image attached to this article was drawn by one of the seminarians and hung in a hallway named after her.

There is much that could be said about the ways in which Sr. Clare has helped and inspired a large number of the men in our seminary. It’s been remarkable to see the ways in which her example has stirred in many of my brothers a greater desire to be configured to Christ Crucified. It’s astounding to walk through the hallways now and to see images of Sr. Clare on the guys’ bulletin boards and in their rooms in order to remind them of the ways in which she has inspired them. Men have expressed many ways in which Sr. Clare has inspired them and evoked in them a desire for totality, an undivided heart, purification of superficiality and to be one’s true self. These are just a few of the ways. I could go in to many reasons why I think she is having such a strong impact on us seminarians but it is undeniable that she is befriending the future shepherds of the Church and challenging them to truly imitate and conform their hearts to Christ’s Sacred Heart. She continues her mission to defend the Eucharist! I am personally filled with immense gratitude for the ways in which Sr. Clare has drawn not just my brother seminarians but those I love around me closer to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

In gratitude and in an effort to call to mind the ways in which she has strengthened our vocation, the college seminarians named a hallway after her and put an image on the wall drawn by one of the men. As we pass her image we are reminded that Jesus is everything and that we are called like Sr. Clare to give all or nothing.
