Sr. Clare

It turns out that Sr. Clare and I shared a hobby: she wanted to be a famous Hollywood actress and I wanted to be a famous Broadway actress. However, something in our path that caused both of us to move away from that world: Christ.

A young woman wrote us from Madrid, Spain, to share how the film and the book about Sr. Clare have helped her.

Drawing of Sr. ClareA few years ago I was very ill and a close friend from the university sent me some pictures of Sr. Clare and told me a bit about her story.

It turns out that Sr. Clare and I shared a hobby: she wanted to be a famous Hollywood actress and I wanted to be a famous Broadway actress. However, something in our path that caused both of us to move away from that world: Christ.

Sr. Clare has always impressed me. Since I was a little girl, my family used to tell me, "Ana, you are either all or nothing. You are never in the gray zone. You always choose black or white." And that's how it is. In my life it's all or nothing, like Sr. Clare.

I have seen the movie All or Nothing about eight times by now, and it continues to amaze and enlighten me every time I watch it. But the book… the book has made me fall in love. I want to be like her! I kept thinking each day as I read it, "I wish I was as good, I wish I was as humble, I wish I was as helpful, I wish I was as holy."

Reading Sr. Clare has only increased the desire in me to want to be a saint, to want to serve my neighbor and to want to give my life for the Lord. I have fallen in love with her story and her great love. It only took me a week to read it, in the subway, in my room, etc.

Like her, I also felt a great emptiness that only God could fill. My life changed when I trusted Him and let Him take the helm of my ship.

When I read her personal writings, thinking of the level of recollection that she had reached, it overwhelmed me.

On page 331 of the book she says, "Pray for me, so that I can have a magnanimous soul for the Lord. I wish it could be like St. John Paul II's.” And I think of mine and say, "I wish it were like Sister Clare's."

In front of me a whole new path is now opening up. I only hope that she will guide me by the hand of the Lord and Our Mother.
