Sr. Clare's writing

In the Home of the Mother we have a Carmelite spirituality, and for this reason we feel very united to the Carmelite Order. In August 2002, just after Sr. Clare completed one year of candidacy in the Servant Sisters, she made a pilgrimage through Spain visiting the places sanctified by great Carmelite saints, such as St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila and St. Maravillas de Jesus. In addition, she met the Carmelite Mothers of several cloistered convents, having the opportunity to tell them about her vocation and ask for their prayers. To this day, the Carmelites of Arenas de San Pedro, for example, still remember the joy and grace with which the young Clare told them of her struggles to follow the Lord and how, finally, grace had the victory in her soul.

We share the draft of a letter she wrote to one of the convents she visited that summer. She wrote it herself in Spanish—a sign that she was already beginning to master the language—but she asks someone to help her correct it so that she can send it well to the Carmelites.

Hello Sisters in Christ,

This is Clare, from Ireland. I do not know if you remember me, a somewhat crazy girl who wanted to be a “famous nun.” Now you remember, right? Well, I am writing to say “thank you very much” for all your prayers. Father told me you asked about me and that you are praying for me. I am very grateful for that. You are too kind! Well, I too offer my work and prayer for the Carmelites. I am filled with immense joy when I think about how you offer your whole life for Him, who offered His life for us. You truly are a huge consolation for the Lord. Please continue to pray for me and my family. Pray that I may always be faithful to my vocation and serve our Father, Brother, Friend, and Spouse Jesus Christ my whole life. Well, may our holiest, sweetest, most beautiful Mother Mary keep you under her mantle always!

LONG LIVE ST. TERESA!
LONG LIVE MADRE MARAVILLAS!
LONG LIVE THE CARMELITES!
LONG LIVE MARY, THE MOTHER OF GOD!
LONG LIVE CHRIST, THE KING!

With lots of love always,
Clare +
