Clare

On the feast day of the Immaculate Conception, I had a strong encounter with Our Lady. I tried to meditate on the sorrow of Our Lady during the crucifixion.

Sr. Clare had grown up with many exterior devotions to the Virgin Mary but had never put her heart in them. After her conversion on Good Friday in the year 2000 at the age of 17, little by little she began to discover her Heavenly Mother and to have a close relationship with Her. One of her first strong encounters with Our Lady was during a meditation on Her sorrow at the foot of Her Son’s Cross. It was during a pilgrimage when she was a candidate in December of 2001 to Toledo, Spain, where the Home of the Mother had begun.

She writes her experience shortly afterwards to help herself to not forget it: “On the feast day of the Immaculate Conception, I had a strong encounter with Our Lady. I tried to meditate on the sorrow of Our Lady during the crucifixion. I imagined Her there with the apostle John. Our Lady had suffered so much. I paused at the point where Our Lord and His Mother’s eyes meet. How much pain. I cried at this point... Sr. Blanca had said that Our Lady would never turn her back on us. She gave this example: If a child is dirty, his mother does not slap him and push him away. She cleans him with love. Even if he falls, she cleans his wound and consoles him—like Our Lady with us, her children.”

This story of the dirty child whom his mother cleans impacted Clare so much that she decided to write an article for the HM Children’s magazine about it. She received her conversion and vocation when she kissed Christ’s feet on the Cross on Good Friday. Now she came to grasp Our Lady’s motherly love at the foot of the Cross in the moment when Our Lord gave Her to us as Our Mother. She would continue throughout her years as a Servant Sister to discover Her love more and more.
