Helping a girl with anorexia

Sr. Paulette Maes, United States:

Hermana PauletteSister Clare started talking to her and little by little, she started to change.

Sr. Paulette has been a Servant Sister of the Home of the Mother since 2008 and met Sr. Clare when she was 14 years old, in 2004, in Zurita (Cantabria, Spain).

There was a 26-year-old girl who Sister Clare had helped out a lot. This girl had been anorexic since she was thirteen and when we met her, she had greatly distanced herself from God. Sister Clare started talking to her and little by little, she started to change.

After a couple of months, she started to eat better. She would go to Mass and adoration with us and afterwards come over to help us around the house. Sometimes Sister Clare would give her Spanish lessons. A few times, she had relapses and would have to be hospitalized. Sister Clare would visit her and encourage her to keep going forward.

After some time, this girl found a job. She told Sister Clare, but Sister Clare didn’t think that it was good idea because with the work schedule that she would have, she wouldn’t be able to go to Mass or adoration. She decided to accept the job anyway. Immediately, after leaving her prayer life, her problem started to become bad again. Sister Clare prayed for her a lot.
