Her Gaze Reflected God

Sandra Galarza:

Sandra

Valeria had a very special gaze that conveyed so much peace. I think that’s because her gaze reflected God.

Sandra Galarza is from Guayaquil (Ecuador) and she entered as a candidate in the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother on October 21, 2012. She shared many moments with our Sisters who passed away in the earthquake during the past years.

I remember one day Fr. Rafael had a meeting with all of the girls of the Home of the Mother. One of the girls mentioned her fear of the possibility of having a vocation to the consecrated life. By what she said, it seemed like the possibility of having a vocation would be a heavy burden for her. I was surprised by the way Valeria looked intently at that girl, not at all understanding how someone could not want to give herself entirely to God. I was amazed at how these two emotions could be seen together in her eyes, disbelief and at the same time peace. I wasn’t around Valeria a lot, but when I was, there were times when I just wanted to look at her. And I think that’s because her gaze reflected God.
